The Broomleague

Objective: The objective of the race is to score the most points within a set number of cycles. Points are scored by flying through rings that appear within a designated area.

Cycle Structure: Each cycle consists of three rounds:

  1. Mystery and Known Boxes Round: Roll a d4 for the number of Mystery Boxes that appear. Additionally, 2 Healing Boxes and 2 Charge Boxes appear in random locations within the area. Riders can fly through these boxes to gain their effects.
  2. Preparation Round: No new boxes or rings appear. Riders can use this round to position their Broomlings, cast spells, use items, or take other actions to prepare for the next round.
  3. Ring Scoring Round: Roll a d4 for the number of rings that appear in random locations within the area. Riders score points by flying their Broomlings through these rings. Each ring is worth 1 point and disappears once flown through.

Scoring: A rider scores points by successfully flying their Broomling through a ring. Each ring is worth 1 point. The rider with the most points at the end of the set number of cycles is the winner.

Actions:

  1. Fly: The rider uses their action to move their Broomling up to its speed. They can attempt to fly through a ring or box as part of this movement.
  2. Charge Boost: The rider can use 2 charges as a bonus action to double their Broomling’s speed until the end of the current round. However, they must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw at the end of the round or lose control and fall prone in midair.
  3. Use Upgrade: If the Broomling has an upgrade, the rider can use an action to activate it. The effects depend on the upgrade.
  4. Stylish Maneuver: When a rider declares they are going to attempt a stylish maneuver to pass through a ring, they must describe the maneuver and make an appropriate skill check. The DM determines the difficulty class (DC) based on the complexity of the maneuver.

Spellcasting Limit: Each rider can only cast one spell that targets another rider per round. Riders can cast spells that target other riders, but only up to a certain spell level. Casting a spell that targets another rider requires concentration.

Box Effects:

  1. Mystery Box: Roll on the provided table to determine the effect.
  2. Healing Box: The rider regains a number of hit points equal to 1d10 + their level.
  3. Charge Box: The Broomling immediately regains 2 charges.

This event emphasizes speed, maneuverability, strategic use of charges and upgrades, and decision-making with the boxes. It should provide an exciting and dynamic experience for the players.
